Indra Prasad Kattel, General Director of the R. Rockefeller S.C. Nepal Branch, is establishing and developing the RRSC Sustainability Development Centre in Koshi Province, working in collaboration with the Provincial Government and Local Governments in Nepal.
AN INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM
Environment, research
and opportunity.
The Centre is being created as a multidisciplinary platform bringing together environmental protection, green and alternative energy, water management, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, research, training and local economic development.
The ambition is a practical, community-driven demonstration model that can be replicated in other communities across Nepal: a place where government, communities, investors and development partners can turn sustainability into measurable economic and social impact.
The Centre is under development. The activities and outcomes described here form its development programme, not a claim of completed facilities or results.
Environmental risks & climate resilience
A major area of activity will be the study, assessment and prevention of environmental and natural disasters. The programme will address floods, landslides, drought, soil erosion, water stress and other climate-related risks, developing practical approaches to prevention, mitigation and territorial resilience.
Water & local ecosystems
Water-resource management and conservation will connect irrigation, ponds and agricultural water use with the protection of local ecosystems. Responsible use of water and natural resources is central to the Centre’s long-term development approach.
Green & alternative energy
The Centre will study and promote green and alternative energy solutions, energy efficiency, low-carbon technologies and advanced sustainable energy systems suited to local conditions.
Agriculture, skills & local enterprise
Sustainable agriculture and food production will be developed alongside responsible land use, practical training and skills development. The programme aims to support job creation and local enterprises, connecting environmental sustainability with economic and social development.
SUSTAINABILITY × ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Connecting field knowledge
with intelligent systems.
A key component of the programme will be collaboration with the RRSC Artificial Intelligence Research Centre in Nepal, involving Santosh Bhusal and Mohan G.C.
The objective is to integrate AI, advanced data analysis, predictive modelling and intelligent monitoring across the Centre’s environmental, agricultural, water and energy activities.
