RRSC Sustainability Development Centre takes shape in Koshi Province, Nepal
The R. Rockefeller S.C. is developing the RRSC Sustainability Development Centre in Ratuwamai, Itahara, Morang District, Koshi Province, Nepal. The project aims to bring environmental sustainability, agriculture, skills, employment and local enterprise together in a practical, community-driven model.
The Centre is currently under development. With coordination and support from the Provincial Government and Local Governments, its vision is to demonstrate how rural and semi-urban development can create lasting economic, social and environmental value.
Development priorities
The planned work connects eight complementary areas:
- Carbon reduction and green practices.
- Sustainable agriculture and food production.
- Water, pond and natural-resource management.
- Climate-resilient rural development.
- Employment and local enterprise creation.
- Skills development and practical training.
- Sustainable business and production models.
- Public-private-community partnerships.
A demonstration model for communities
The objective is to establish a working model that can be replicated in other communities across Nepal. Its intended outcomes include a lower carbon footprint, a stronger local economy, new jobs, a skilled workforce, sustainable enterprises and more resilient communities.
The Centre is intended to provide a platform for government, communities, investors and development partners to turn sustainability into measurable economic and social impact. These are the project’s objectives as it develops.
Building locally, thinking globally
By connecting practical training with agriculture, resource management and enterprise, RRSC aims to support locally developed solutions with wider relevance. The emphasis is on building locally, creating jobs locally and developing skills locally.
This sustainability initiative in Koshi Province is distinct from the Group’s AI and software-engineering centre in Lalitpur.
